Our goal is to ease the burden of homelessness by assembling backpacks filled with food, clothes, and toiletries and distributing them to the homeless in Athens and Atlanta, GA. Each backpacks costs $20 or less, and contains more than 40 items. We believe that every homeless person deserves a better quality of life, no matter their circumstances. We go beyond simply providing supplies; we establish personal connections with the people we meet by hand-delivering every backpack we make. Fulfilling the physical and emotional needs of the homeless is part of our broader philosophy of being the change we want to see in the world, starting in our local communities. The Backpack Project proudly serves the homeless in the cities of Athens and Atlanta. Estimates state that there are nearly one thousand homeless people in the City of Athens and more than six thousand in Atlanta. We believe that the homeless in our communities are among those most in need of our attention, innovation, and philanthropy.
