Reach Out and Read gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.

We partner with doctors to give parents advice about the benefits of reading to their children and books during every well visit checkup. Our intervention is proven to work and the research shows that children who participate in our program arrive Kindergarten with a six month developmental edge as compared to non participating children.

Dr. Smith, a pediatrician in Georgia shared that she had a family come in with 3, 5, and 7 yr old boys. The 5 year old was in for a well check. The family had just moved to town and they were poor but well taken care of. The boy said the book was the first book he had ever been given and all three boys were so excited to look at the book together. She ended up giving each of the siblings a book!

We are in need of a "volunteer" Volunteer Engagement Coordinator! This person would coordinate scheduling volunteers in different activities including; readers at doctor's offices, planning special events, supporting book drives, stocking shelves with books, and other miscellaneous activities. We also need volunteers to fundraise by supporting different campaigns throughout the year.

Funding Needs
We serve 109,083 children and families in Georgia and our goal is to provide two books per year to each child. On average we estimate we will need to purchase 218,166 books this year to fully support all our 128 program sites. Please consider a donation of any size to help support our goal to prepare children for success in school and in life.
