An Atlanta institution, Hands On Atlanta has been the volunteer hub for the city for almost 30 years! Through annual days of service like Hands On Atlanta Day and MLK Day to the hundreds of projects posted every month, Hands On Atlanta is committed to igniting a passion for service and creating life-long volunteers. It's time to join the movement!
Every year, Hands On Atlanta mobilizes 20,000+ volunteers to help solve vital community needs with an emphasis on: youth development, education and family support and self-sufficiency. Our volunteers invest nearly $4 million annually through 150,000 hours served, directly impacting our communities.
Hands On Atlanta
Since 1990, Hands On Atlanta has maintained education programming as one of its strongest core areas of work. Discovery is our longest-running program through which volunteers provide group mentoring and educational enrichment for elementary students in grades K-5. The program is offered two Saturdays a month from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm during the academic year. Approximately 700 students will participate in Discovery during the 2017-2018 academic year at seven Title 1 partner schools across Metro Atlanta. In addition to tutoring and mentoring, program activities include:
- Physical fitness
- Financial literacy curriculum
- Teamwork and group problem-solving activities that help students build interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills
- STEM experiential curricula and field trips
- Healthy snacks during program hours and non-perishable snacks to take home
Hands On Atlanta
"I have been attending Discovery for three years. I like coming because of my friends. I also learn
new things that help me do better in school. My favorite volunteers are Ms. Tanisha and the
college students from Georgia State University. I'm happy and thankful that Discovery has been
around for us kids."
